River Nidd – Abbey Road, Knaresborough

Grimbald Bridge

Head out of Knaresborough on York Road turning right onto Wetherby Road at the traffic lights. As you approach the lights at the bridge over the river turn right onto Abbey Road. After 150 meters you will come to a lay- by on the left at St Roberts Cave. Parking here for 2 – 3 cars. Take the steps down to the river where you will come to the first fishable peg. Downstream to the bridge are a further 2 – 3 pegs.

During the summer months the opposite bank can get quite busy as it is a day ticket water. The quietest time would be 1st January to 24th March as according to the sign no fishing is allowed from the opposite bank during this period.

Low Bridge

From Knaresborough travel towards Calcutt and at the bottom of Briggate turn left onto Abbey Road. There are some parking spaces just before the cottages on the right. At the end of the cottages where a wooden fence starts is the upper limit of the club water. Some off Road parking under the crag if you want to risk it. The bottom limit is approximately 120 meters downstream where the walled garden starts.

Contains chub, dace, gudgeon, roach, perch, grayling, trout, eels and occasional barbel.
